Our district’s guiding fundamental principle asserts our dedication to quality lifelong learning, and the organization’s structure reflects this. The school district is organized into six elementary schools configured as grades K-5, and with enrollments from 200 to 400 students; a middle school configured with grades 6-8 and an enrollment of 1200; and a comprehensive grade 9-12 high school with 2000 students. Of those, approximately 320 juniors and seniors are tuition students from the neighboring town of Windham. By the year 2011 Salem High School is expected to enroll 1600 students all from the town of Salem. In addition to our traditional schools, the school district operates a fully certified alternative high school program with as many as 200 students, and as a testament to our guiding principle, we offer enrichment programming for another 500 individuals of all ages through our evening exploratory and enrichment program.
We are a dynamic organization with a proud history and a promising future. The district is governed by a five person school board that establishes policy and sets our direction. Salem’s award winning professional staff is among the best in the region, and our support staff is committed to ensuring the best opportunities for our students. The post-secondary schools our students attend include everything from the most prestigious universities to the finest community colleges. We simply encourage our graduates to pursue their best option.
Our commitment to look beyond the traditional is reflected in our emphasis on advanced staff training, contemporary technology architecture, and alternative instructional approaches that include e-learning and software as a service. One of our primary strategic objectives is to ensure that all learners have the knowledge and skills to progress to the next level of education they select regardless of the chosen path.
