Reading Support Services
The Salem School District employs four Reading Specialists/Consultants:

·        Amy Favreau – Fisk and Lancaster Elementary Schools amy.favreau@sau57.org

·        Jennie Marshall – Barron and Soule Elementary Schools jennie.marshall@sau57.org

·        Charlotte Gillespie – Haigh and North Salem Elementary Schools charlotte.gillespie@sau57.org

·        Patricia Maestranzi – Woodbury Middle School pmaestranzi@sau57.org

Under the direction of the Director of Literacy and Instructional Assessment, Diane Johnson (diane.johnson@sau57.org) and in consultation with building principals, the Reading Specialists/Consultants support and coordinate reading and writing instruction and assessment.

In addition to coaching, supporting, and providing job-embedded professional development for classroom teachers, elementary Reading Specialists/Consultants direct and monitor interventionists – the staff members who provide supplemental support services to students. This includes fourteen Title I-funded, NH certified teachers as well as twelve highly-qualified reading assistants in Salem’s six elementary schools.

As resident literacy experts in their schools, Reading Specialists/Consultants ensure that each student receives developmentally appropriate instruction in order to meet the Salem School District’s literacy standards.
