This year the staff is approaching character and citizenship education differently. We will continue to emphasize monthly themes, but we are placing a more focused emphasis on observing positive behavior in the students. When anyone (staff, parent, etc.) observes an act of good citizenship they can fill out a simple form to recognize the student’s accomplishment. The student’s name and their good deed will be read over the intercom during morning or afternoon announcements. Teachers will model the character traits and recognize those students that put them into action. We hope that this will build a strong foundation for the year ahead, and assist in the development of our students into fine young men and ladies. Your recognition of these traits at home would help us greatly, and parents can access the form on the Lancaster Website.
Several of the character traits that are highlighted throughout the year are emphasized in our Learning Expectations. To view a complete list of the Salem School District Elementary Learning Expectations, please click here. Many of the character traits can be found within our “cross cutting competencies” which are the first five learning expectations.
The complete list of our themes for the year include: responsibility, caring and kindness, self-control, respect/tolerance, making healthy choices, optimism, trustworthiness, honesty, and courage.
Congratulations to June's Students of the Month, who modeled and exemplified Courage and/or Sense of Humor:
