Today is the last meeting of the final session of the 2012-13 school year's Homework Club After School Program.  We thank you for your support and look forward to several sessions of this after school club next year. 

Today's meeting is the next to the last meeting, which is Wednesday, May 29.  This will be the final session of the Homework Club for the 2012-13 school year.  We thank you for allowing the SHS honor students work with your children each Wednesday this month.  We're not sure who got more out of the experience, your children or the high school students, who thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  Thank you all for your support. 

Today the Salem Police Department will present to Haigh School students a Canine Demonstration that will show how the SPD use police dogs in their daily line of work.  Police dogs are highly trained members of the police department and offer a unique and valued set of skills to the police department.  The demonstration lasts for approximately 45 minutes and will take place outdoors, weather permitting.

Our reading specialist, Mrs. Gillespie, is once again hosting our annual Used Book Sale on Wednesday, May 29.  Our Grade 1 students do have a field trip on this day so they will visit the Used Book Sale first so as not to miss this wonderful opportunity to grow their personal library by a book or two. Each book sells for 25 cents a piece.  We have quite a varied supply at the moment but since it is still officially Spring, if parents/guardians are cleaning out for the next season, we are accepting gently used books for the sale.  We will gladly take any books for grades K - 5.  We do not need pre-school level books.  Please do not feel that you need to send in bagfuls of books ... one or two or just a few will do!  (Yes, we do have Dr. Seuss books in our little collection.)  We will collect books up until Wednesday, May 22.  You may leave them in the foyer next to the greeting table.  We thank you for your continued support.  All proceeds go toward future activities that enrich the reading experiences of our students. 

Ahoy, former Haigh School Hornets!  Thar be a celebration in yer honor as graduates o' Salem High - Class o' 2013.  Yer invited t' join us if ye dare - Friday, June 14 at 7:45 a.m.!  Th'll be plenty o' grub 'n dubloons.  Be thar or be squar!  Don't be late or y'll be walkin' the plank!

The Career Fair is scheduled today for students in grade 4 and 5.  This venue is a great way to show young students a variety of careers to get them thinking about what they might like to be "when they grow up."  There will be a room of professionals representing some of the various career opportunities that are available and each table will have "hands on" materials for the students to use or veiw as being important for the different occupations that are present at the career fair.
