From the Desk of the Principal –
It is Spring at last! We will celebrate Earth Week the week of April 19th this year. We all can’t wait to beautify our school grounds. As usual all grade levels have been assigned areas around the school to clean and beautify. So during this week we hope to all get out here and spruce up the school grounds. If anyone would like to join us, please contact your child’s teacher to find out when they will be engaged in this activity. Any suggestions on how we can beautify our grounds would be welcomed. On Friday of that week, Mrs. Seastedt’s class will join the Salem Garden Club in planting a new tree on school grounds.
Since March was Music in Our Schools month we once again had the New England Brass join us for a fun-filled entertaining assembly. This event exposes students to the brass family of instruments and explores the diverse musical styles written for brass including Classical, Jazz, Marches, Broadway and Rock ‘N Roll. This is always one of our students’ favorites.
We also had a visit from the Red Sox, Wally the Green Monster! This event was organized by Mrs. Santosuosso, our Reading Incentive parent coordinator. They presented five books to our library and every student received a handshake or hug from Wally and a bookmark. Great fun!
This month once again we will have our African Drum and Dance Residency. Annegret Baier and Erma Colvin will work with each 3rd Grade class presenting interactive workshops in African Drumming and dancing. Our third grades study Africa yearly. We will end the day with an all school assembly with a performance that will engage everyone.
We held our annual Lancaster Spelling Bee here at Fisk School and our 4th and 5th Grade winners are: Grade 4: 1st Place: Jamie Mastrogiacomo; 2nd Place: Taylor Santosuosso; and 3rd Place: Krystina Freeman; Grade 5: 1st Place: Sean Totty; 2nd Place: Nicole McCloskey; and 3rd Place: Laura Perrault.
Next month we will be having our Volunteer Tea on May 21st. So please mark your calendars.
A reminder to all – If students are going to be riding their bikes or walking to school now that the good weather is almost here, please remember they must have a note from home giving them permission to do so. Also, bike riders must wear a helmet and lock up their bikes.
I hope to see you on April 7th at PTA!
