Under the direction of Dr. Jennie Marshall, Director of Literacy and Instructional Assessement, and in consultation with building principals, the Reading Specialists/Consultants support and coordinate reading and writing instruction and assessment.

In addition to coaching, supporting, and providing job-embedded professional development for classroom teachers, elementary Reading Specialists/Consultants direct and monitor interventionists – the staff members who provide supplemental support services to students. This includes fourteen Title I-funded, NH certified teachers as well as twelve highly-qualified reading assistants in Salem’s six elementary schools.

As resident literacy experts in their schools, Reading Specialists/Consultants ensure that each student receives developmentally appropriate instruction in order to meet the Salem School District’s literacy standards.
